March Breakfast – Avoiding construction & property disputes (where your employees are working)

Guest speaker: Howard Jenkins
The relevance to People Management: the working environment is critical to employee satisfaction, and creating the right environment without complications is critical

If you are a current or future landlord or tenant of premises, or about to undertake building works then this session is for you. Looking at both home and business accommodation, we will be considering how to get the the basic principles right from the start, and covering a number of hints and tips to ensure that all sides understand their contractual responsibilities, and can get on with the rest of their lives and businesses. Everyone should go away aware of pitfalls and how to prepare for them, as well as hearing a few horror stories about what happens when it goes wrong. Timing is everything and recognising issues early is the key.
Our speaker, Howard Jenkins, is a very experienced Chartered Surveyor and Expert witness, now working as Senior Consultant to Baqus Construction Consultancy PLC. His exposure to a range of complex situations give him a unique understanding of what the consequences of not getting it right from the start can be.

Start Time: 08:30
End Time: 09:45
Date: 19/02/2013
Description: “The Relationship between Business Partners – good Marriages and better Divorces” – led by Cathy Foster

People enter into business partnerships for a wide variety of of very good reasons, yet fewer than 20% of partnerships last five years. While this is an American statistic, this isn’t far off the British experience. Research shows:

It is the relationship between partners and not the business plan that leads to the success or failures of a partnership venture
It’s the interpersonal and emotional dynamics that can upset a partnership – written agreements are no protection

Cathy Foster of Business Duo Coaching will take you through best practice for partnership building and maintenance, as well as breaking-up. She’ll also give you top tips to take back to your business and help you explore how wrong you can be if you make assumptions about each other’s viewpoints.

If you’re not currently in a partnership, come anyway, as the lessons to be learnt are true for any work team.

Cathy is a relationship coach, working with her business partner Neil Wilkie. They work with any two people whose crucial relationships are critical for success. Their website is www.businessduocoaching.com.

Location: Dutton Gregory Office, St Peter’s Street, Winchester. SO23 9NA
Start Time: 08:30
End Time: 09:45
Date: 20/11/2012
Description: “ Bribery and Corruption – is prevention better than cure? ” – led by James Richardson.

The new UK Bribery Act has now been in force for more than a year and time is running out for those organisations that have not yet established compliance measures. Although there have been no headline cases as yet, a great deal is happening behind the scenes, and prosecutions (or settlements) brought under the old laws continue to surface, to the considerable anguish of the businesses concerned, and their employees.

James Richardson works as an Anti-Bribery consultant. Drawing on his hands-on involvement in implementing an anti-bribery strategy within a large international company, he advises organisations about the impact of the new legislation. In this session, he will talk about the current anti-bribery climate and provide some pointers as to the steps you can take to prevent your business – and your people – from falling foul of the law.
